Mother of Fabio di
Celmo dies
ORA
Bassi, the mother of the young Italian Fabio di
Celmo, killed in the 1997 bombing of the Havana
Copacabana Hotel, died June 1 in Italy,
coincidentally on the day her son would have
celebrated his 47th birthday.
The criminal act, perpetrated
September 7 that year, was part of a terror campaign
organized and financed by the CIA, targeting tourist
facilities in Havana and took Fabio’s life at 32
years of age. His mother has died without seeing the
person who ordered the bombing brought to justice:
the self-confessed terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.
"The Italian was in the wrong place
at the wrong time, but I sleep like a baby,"
declared Posada, who today freely walks the streets
of Miami, protected by U.S. authorities. (SE)
